The seventeen-year-old girl who was recently sexually assaulted in Trelawny has been placed in residential care following the incident.  The Child Development Agency (CDA) stepped in immediately and has been facilitating care and protection as well as medical and psycho-social support to aid in the child’s recovery.

In the meantime, the Police are doing the necessary work to bring the perpetrators to justice, and we urge citizens with information on the matter to cooperate fully with the authorities.

The Minister of Youth and Culture the Hon. Lisa Hanna has been kept up-to-date and is very active in the matter, in an effort to protect the best interest of the child. “I am outraged and deeply disturbed by this vicious attack against a child, and the posting of the act on social media,” the Minister said.

The CDA and our partners urge all well-thinking residents to take a stand to report all known or suspected cases of child abuse to the authorities and to isolate and expose abusers.  It is only through the cooperation of citizens that we will be able to arrest and eliminate the alarming trend of child abuse and violence against our children.
